Unless Tim Tebow discreetly slipped into this afternoon's team meetings, the Florida quarterback is not expected on Florida's football premises today, according to a team source. Tebow suffered a concussion last week against Kentucky, and his condition has improved in the last two days.
The source said Tebow is not attending the Gators' Tuesday practice from 4-6 p.m. If Tebow does attend practice this week, it's likely as a spectator. Rest is essential after concussions.
It's noteworthy that Tebow is still a student, but he takes one class called "Senior Seminar." Tebow is taking the class on an independent basis, meaning he can study online or basically whenever he wants barring he finishes the work. So Tebow doesn't have to worry about getting to the classroom.
Melvin Field, co-director of the Florida Hospital Sports Concussion Program, said a 2001 study showed most mild concussions among college athletes take 3-7 days to heal.
To recover, “you have to rest the brain,” Field said. “It also means no exercising, getting your rest and your schoolwork has to be decreased — no stressful tests while you’re healing.”
